Maintenance - Cleaning Stenner Injector
Cleaning Stenner Injectors need to be cleaned at least once a month to keep any buildup from clogging the injector.
Signs that you may need to clean your injector
- The Stenner chemical pump is pumping chemicals but the readings are not balancing.
- The Stenner pump is running for longer periods of time.
Supplies needed:
- Personal protective equipment
- Phillips screwdriver or something rigid that can fit inside the injector
- Channel locks or something to loosen injector
- New tubing, duckbills or ferrules (if needed)
- Diluted acid (if needed)
Steps
- Turn off chemical controllers
- Isolate injector by closing isolation valves in pipe. Or if the injector is not able to be isolated, turn off pool pump.
- If pressurized- depressurize system and bleed pressure from pump discharge tubing.
- Loosen and remove connecting nut and ferrule from the injector. If you have an injector check valve (duckbill) that is where you will remove tubing from.
- Replace duckbill (if applicable)
- Leave injector in pipe and insert a phillips screwdriver through injection fitting to break up accumulated deposits.
- If screwdriver does not fit through the injector due to too much buildup, remove injector from pipe and soak in a diluted acid solution.
- Once injector is clean, reinstall discharge tubing (change is needed), and ferrule (replace if needed) into injector.
- Tighten the connection nut finger tight
- Return flow to pool by opening the isolation valve or turning back on power.
- Check for no leaks and turn back on chemical controllers.
Tips
- Make sure tubing is at least ¾”-1” into injector.
- Replace any tubing, injector or ferrule if cracked, leaking, broken, or deteriorated.
- If using a check valve (duckbill) make sure to reinstall the check valve into injector before reinstalling the tubing.
- Make sure to always use caution when disconnecting discharge tubing. Discharge may be under pressure and the chemical will spew out when disconnected.
- If you are experiencing clogs on a regular basis. You can cut the injector steam on a 45 degree angle on the flow side. Also ensure that the pump doesn't run without chemicals as air in the lines cause the chemicals to solidify.
- If tubing has buildup or clogged on the end, make sure to cut or replace.
