Maxium Flow Rate & Total Dynamic Head
- Maxium flow rate is required in choosing the right drain cover.
- Drain cover must exceed maximum flow rate.
- Maxium flow rate is different from operation flow rate.
Information needed to determine Maxmium Flow Rate:
- Total Dynamic Head (TDH)-amount of pressure differential created by pump as it is operated.
- Pump Model- specific performance curve chart- comes from the manufacturer with pumps.
Figure out Maximum Flow Rate- must be done with water in the pool
- Run the pump at the highest speed.
- Make sure the pump is running with the lowest resistance. Backwash filters, open all drains 100%, clean skimmers, remove fittings in returns.
- Watch gages to determine Total dynamic head (TDH)*.
- Plot TDH against the pump model-specific performace curve chart to get maximum flow rate.
Figure out Total Dynamic Head (TDH) Watch vacuum and pressure gages during Maxmium Flow Rate testing.
- Multiple vacuum gage ready by 1.13
- Multiply pressure gage ready by 2.31
- “A” total + “B” total = Total Dynamic Head
