Week 5: Staff Training & Planning for the Future

A well-trained team is essential to maintaining a safe and efficient aquatic facility. The Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification provides a strong foundation in water chemistry, filtration, and pool operations, equipping staff with the knowledge to manage a commercial pool safely. But learning doesn’t stop there—continued education helps operators stay ahead of industry changes and challenges. Courses like Certified Maintenance Specialist (CMS), Certified Service Technician (CST), Certified Pool Inspector (CPI), and Certified Hot Tub Technician (CHTT) offer deeper expertise in maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs. Expanding knowledge through these programs ensures staff can confidently handle everything from water quality issues to equipment maintenance.

Planning for the future is just as important as day-to-day operations. Facility managers should have turbidity management on their radar, as maintaining clear water is crucial for both safety and regulatory compliance. Additionally, understanding and meeting Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool and Spa Safety Act requirements is critical in preventing entrapment hazards. Investing in ongoing education and forward-thinking planning helps ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant aquatic environment for years to come.
